Specialist Orthopaedic Referrals

Our orthopaedic referral service is led by Nick Macdonald BVetMed MVM CertSAS Dipl. ECVS MRCVS, European Specialist in Small Animal Surgery. Nick is supported by our surgical team Joe Fox BSc MRCVS, Caroline Webber BSc RVN, Ursula Bradshaw DipHE CVN RVN,

Orthopaedic surgeon

After graduating from the RVC in 1999, Nick undertook internships at the University of Glasgow and also at Davies Veterinary Specialists. Following two years working at the PDSA he moved to the University of Liverpool where he taught anatomy prior to completing a surgery residency. He moved to Highcroft Veterinary Referrals in August 2011 to lead our Orthopaedic referral service.

Nick enjoys all aspects of orthopaedic surgery and has a particular expertise in arthroscopy.

In February 2012 Nick passed his European exams to become recognised Diploma holder.

Veterinary Surgeon

Joe is an important member of the orthopaedic support team. Joe holds a Certificate in Hip Replacement Surgery from BioMedTrix, the leading developers and suppliers of hip replacement systems. His interests include joint disease, arthroscopy and fracture repair.

Joe is currently enrolled on the RCVS Certificate in Small Animal Surgery.

Referral Nurse, Orthopaedic Surgery

Caroline joined Highcroft at the end of 2009 as a final year veterinary nurse student (BSc). She has since completed her degree and now one of our most highly qualified nurses.

Caroline is particularly interested in orthopaedics and a valuable member of Nick's team.

Surgery Nurse

Ursula joined Highcroft in 2005 and qualified as a veterinary nurse in January 2006. Ursula has a special interest in surgery and works closely with Juliet Pope and Nick Macdonald in soft tissue and orthopaedic surgery.

Chris
Gudge

Referral Manager

Chris joined Highcroft in 2003 and became our first male veterinary nurse in 2006.

Since then Chris has gained a post graduate certificate, with distinction, in Anaesthesia and Critical Care.

Chris is a key member of our referral team. He assists Jim Carter with his ophthalmology clinics and operations and also Juliet Pope and Nick Macdonald in-surgery.

Chris also manages the running of our veterinary referrals service.

Veterinary Nurse, physiotherapy

Sarah is a fully qualified veterinary nurse who is currently studying for her physiotherapy and rehabilitiation nursing qualifications.

Sarah uses her physiotherapy skills to help orthopaedic patients with their rehabilitation.
